Health Career Practicum is a two level course designed to provide students with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to make the transition from school to work. Varied instructional strategies and technologies are used to emphasize the course content: Job seeking and job maintenance skills, personal management skills, self analysis to aid in career selection and completion of the application process for admission into a post secondary program of their choice. A second layer of the course is an extended laboratory experience designed to provide students the opportunity to assume the role of a health care provider and practice technical skills, previously learned in the classroom, at the clinical site of their choice. Skills USA, the health science student organization, encourages development of leadership, communication, community service and health care related skills.

* Required Prerequisite: Health Careers I, a grade point average of C or higher in health science classes and teacher approval

Program Information:

  • Students will have the opportunity to assume the role of a health care provider and practice technical skills, previously learned in the classroom, at the clinical site of their choice.
  • Students will have an opportunity to earn their Certified Nursing Assistant Certification

  • Over 200 potential positions including; Certified Nursing Assistant or Day Care Assistant

Wage:

  • High School Diploma with Career Training: $8.00 - $26.00
  • College or Additional Technical Training: $12.00 - $35.00

Program Requirements:

  • Completed Health Careers 1 and or other related Science class
  • Students must have their own transportation

Program Fees:

  • Book Fees: $65.00
  • Classroom supplies: Scrubs, CNA Certification , General School supplies= $100 - $120

Certification:

(CNA) Students who successfully complete the academic and attendance requirements and receive approval of the instructor may be accepted into the internship program. These students may take the written and practical tests and complete the clinical hours to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)..
